Many of the DIY tutorials I’ve found on how to wash patio cushions involved Borax and dish soap. By all means if you have Borax, those tutorials might work for you. However, I did not have Borax, and I was either having trouble finding it or not looking in the right spot! Instead, I opted to try something completely new and unconventional.
First off, I want to show you what my cushions looked like before cleaning. I have had these cushions about 3 years and have tried a multitude of different cleaning tactics (never Borax though) with little success. We have significant pollen in the spring and if you don’t properly allow the cushions to dry and drain after a huge rainstorm, you can get mold. Lets just say these were starting to get moldy. I hope you don’t judge me too harshly for how horrible my patio cushions have gotten!
My mother was actually telling me about this cleaning solution that she absolutely loved! We happened to be in the store one day and found it for $3! She said this stuff was amazing. So I opted to spend $3 on a 64 fl oz bottle and decided to try it on my patio cushions. It’s LA’s Totally Awesome All Purpose Concentrated Cleaner. It clains you can use this on pretty much anything I believe the only thing it states you shouldn’t use it on is leather…and I can understand.
I took my patio cushions off the deck and hosed them down with some water. Next I sprayed this cleaner all over the cushions then took a hard bristle brush and scrubbed all of the cushions. I then let them sit for a couple minutes and hosed them off. Let me say that I was pleasantly surprised at how well they turned out! See the pictures below for further proof!
If you don’t remember awhile back I also was struggling to clean soap scum and hard water stains off of my shower insert. I eventually found a solution that I shared on the blog here. However, I put LA’s Totally Awesome Cleaner to the test in there as well…and it worked like a charm!!! I may have just found my new all-purpose cleaner for hard to clean things!
Let me know what you think in the comments below! If you use something else to clean your patio cushions I’d love to know!
