I absolutely love when I get to do “nothing” and just enjoy the little things…
For us, the weekends are usually reserved for errands and chores. Now, it’s definitely not as bad as it sounds because it’s actually when we get to spend the most time together and catch up.
Saturday morning usually starts with sleeping in. 🙂 If you know me, I LOVE sleep! My husband actually thinks my goal in life is to sleep the most! I can’t ever turn down sleep and will nap as many days of the week as I possibly can! Oh well! The dogs LOVE sleep as much as I do and they’ll never pass up an opportunity to sleep in either. They usually know that when they get to sleep in, it means that they get to hang out with us for most of the day and they are pretty happy pups! I absolutely LOVE that as well!
After waking up, we usually get up and have a good breakfast. It’s usually eggs and bacon or we will sometimes “splurge” and make pancakes. I’ll usually make a cup of cappuccino (my favorite warm beverage on weekend mornings). 🙂 While breakfast is cooking we will usually put away dishes from the dishwasher that were washed the night before.
Then off to the “dump” we go! We’ll pile our trash cans from the garage into the back of my car along with any broken-down boxes and other recyclables. We’ve lived in our house for almost 9 months and it’s been the same 5 minute drive the entire time. I’ve rarely deviated from my route unless I’ve needed to stop by the Post Office to mail something. Then one day while going to an appointment I realized that there was a bakery on the corner along our usual route! If only I had turned my car to go “left” at the stop sign instead of my usual “right-hand” turn I would have seen it! Unfortunately on this particular day the bakery was closed. 🙁 But I vowed I would be back on the weekend to check it out. So this past “dump day” we made a detour to check it out. If there’s anything I might love as much as sleep, it’s donuts and bread!
I love getting to explore new places even if it’s just a little “hole-in-the-wall” place down the road! And those donuts were delicious! I think we ate them in 1.5 days…by ourselves. YOLO right!?! Next we usually go grocery shopping. Now that we’ve got our Sam’s Club membership we’ve been saving hundreds of dollars on groceries. We usually go once or twice a month to stock up on meats. We’ll return our trash bins to the house and drive into town to go shopping. Just this past weekend we tried their new app “Scan & Go” where you scan your items as you go and show your phone “receipt” at the door when you leave. Since weekends are quite a bit busier this saved us so much time! We didn’t have to unload our carts or show our membership card at checkout. Just download the app, throw in your membership card, scan away, and complete payment before you hit the doors to leave the store!!
Sometimes before we go grocery shopping we’ll stop at the bookstore and browse or there might be a movie we want to see. In that case we’ll make it a “date day” and grab some brunch before hitting up the theater. Afterwards we’ll go grocery shopping. If it’s a non-Sam’s Club grocery day we’ll just run down the road to a regular grocery store to buy our perishable items. Then we are home the rest of the day chilling with the dogs. Nap-time anyone?
Sunday mornings are all about sleeping in (did I tell you this is one of my favorite things to do?) and a good breakfast (yes, more bacon). We usually sit down with our food in front of the TV and watch the newest recorded episode of SNL. We are old and can no longer stay awake to watch it the night it airs! No SNL no problem! Game of Thrones it is! And yes, I know watching TV and especially eating in front of the TV is “bad for you”, but it’s our Sunday routine and we’ll do what we want to do!
If there is any cleaning we didn’t get done Saturday we’ll do it on Sunday. It’s a team effort. The faster we get it done the sooner we don’t have to clean and get to enjoy “free” time. Both the dogs and I love that we are around the house most of the day for playtime, cuddles, and nap-time. Usually we spend the day playing games, binge-watching Game of Thrones, reading, or I work on some of my posts. 😉
Now that the weather is finally warming up the one thing I’m enjoying a LOT of is our walks with the dogs. We live on a pretty busy street and it was a struggle to walk the dogs with cars flying by. Luckily for us there’s a private lake road just up the hill. So we’ve been loading up the pups in the back of the car, driving up the hill and parking, then going for a long walk to wear them out. Anytime we say we’re going for a “walk” they meet us at the door to the garage and then impatiently wait for us to open up the car door. By the time we open up the back of the car on the hill they can barely wait for us to attach their leashes!
It’s nice to get out and get some fresh air. Loki (the corgi) definitely does NOT pace himself and often ends up barreling down the hill and barely makes it back up to the car. Watson is still young and we haven’t taken him on any hikes or on many leashed walks so he’s definitely interested in ALL of the smells. After all that walking the dogs are exhausted – nap-time anyone!?!? I told you we take napping seriously in this household!
For many, this weekend might seem boring and not filled with enough “activities”, but for us it’s what we love most. We aren’t stressing or thinking about work. We aren’t in any rush to get things done. We are just happy to be together with our pups enjoying our time together, dreaming our dreams and enjoying the “simple” life.
I absolutely love when I get to do “nothing” and just enjoy the little things…
