My Tiny Home Obsession…

I absolutely LOVE tiny homes. I’m totally obsessed with them! I love the multifunctional layouts and unique storage each home has and I often search tiny home designs for inspiration and multifunctional pieces. Even my outdoor coffee table came from a tiny home design, as I needed it to also function as a dining table.

While the hubs and I have no intentions of downsizing further at this point in time, I find the concept of tiny living fascinating. I love that tiny homes are all-weather and can be entirely customizable for their owners. They can be built with off-grid capability as well for the environmentally conscious. You can find DIY tiny homes for as little as $10,000, which is quite appealing to those looking for financial freedom or those who live in a high cost of living area (provided you can find a place to park your tiny home.)

Today I’ve decided to compile my favorite tiny homes into one post to share with you (in case you might be as obsessed with tiny living as I am) :). Just a heads up that this post will be pic heavy!

TINY HOME #1

The first tiny home I fell in love with was the “Open Concept Rustic Modern Tiny House” by Ana White. I absolutely love everything that she makes, so it’s not surprising that I would love the tiny house she built one of her clients.

Let’s again talk about all the windows! Any tiny home that has a lot of windows is going to be at the top of my list. This tiny home is so bright! I also love how open the kitchen is. The cabinet at the back under the window is actually on wheels and can be pulled out to reveal the hidden washing machine and dryer combo. Because the kitchen is raised on a platform you have a ton of storage under the kitchen to store things.

One of my favorite features of this tiny home is the elevator bed. During the day it can be raised out of the way, but at night with the flip of a switch, it can be brought down to sleep in. The handmade sectional also features lots of storage and can be reconfigured into a full bed for any overnight visitors.

Lastly, the barn doors are multi-functional and can be pulled out to become a desk or put together for a larger table. I love how the tops of the wooden storage cubes can be turned over and be utilized as an office chair or additional seating for guests. In true Ana White fashion, the plans for this build are free on her website here.

TINY HOME #2

The next tiny house I discovered that I absolutely love in its entirety is Ms. Jypsy Soul’s home. There is nothing missing from this tiny house and I love the luxurious look and feel of her home. Her home definitely has some personality and amazing style! I love the red metal accents with the stained wood finish on the exterior. And again, look at all those windows!

Look at that interior! Despite having dark bold accents, the home is amazingly bright and open! She has a full size custom couch where the ottoman can be used as a chaise so you can lounge and gaze at the beautiful view outside. Her bathroom, tucked under the reading loft, looks so indulgent and beautiful.

The kitchen is quite roomy and complements the design of the bathroom beautifully. Across from her kitchen she also has a walk-in closet to die for! It’d be roomy enough for a couple’s wardrobe as well (as the hubs and I have little fashion style)!

In the back corner of the kitchen is a fold-down table perfect for working at home, journalling, or having a cup of coffee in the morning and gazing out those beautiful windows onto the land. From there you have access to the screened in deck which would be amazing for growing plants, herbs, or lounging in the sun. Lastly, Jewel’s sleeping loft provides a window to access her rooftop balcony!

I absolutely love this house and can’t think of any way I’d alter her design. It feels so open with all of the windows, but also feels so luxurious due to the color scheme she chose. She appears to have thought of everything as there’s no shortage of storage in her home.

Her home first appeared on “Tiny House, Big Living” Season 1 Episode 6. You can watch the episode of her tiny home build on Amazon here or you can visit her website msjypsysoul.com. On her website you can see more pictures of her home, set up a design consultation for your own tiny house build, or sign up for a tiny house workshop.

TINY HOME #3

If I were to ever build a tiny house, it would probably look like the interior of this house. I absolutely love the style – comfy and casual yet still beautiful.

I love the grey cabinets and white walls which are warmed up with beautiful rich flooring and butcher block countertops. There is a washer/dryer combo under a cabinet at the far end of the kitchen as well as a full farmhouse style sink and full size stove/oven combo. There also appears to be storage above the door to the bathroom which would be great for storing seasonal items you wouldn’t be using on a daily basis. I also love how they utilize the height above the cabinets for windows, allowing the light to pour in and brighten up the space. Like I said before, windows mean everything to me!

However, I think my most favorite part of this kitchen is the extended countertop with barstools which can be utilized for dining, extra counterspace, or a computer workstation. Having a designated computer area would be great since the hubs and I spend a lot of time in the office on our computers.

However, I also love the living room and how it is tucked under the loft. It looks perfectly cozy for spreading out and watching movies. Actually, my sister has this exact same couch from Ikea and it would be perfect for a tiny home. It’s a modular sectional, so the sectional piece can go on either side. The sectional portion has storage which you could use for blankets, etc. And the main couch even pulls out to make a full-size bed, which would be great for overnight guests.

TINY HOME #4

The fourth tiny house I adore is Tiny Miss Dolly on Wheels located in Australia. It’s like a real-life dollhouse – a house that dreams are made of!

The first thing I noticed about Dolly’s house was the french doors that let in a whole lot of light (an absolute requirement!) and lead you right into the kitchen. I have never had french doors, but I find them very romantic and inviting.

To me, the L-shaped kitchen is perfect. You have a spacious sink, oven, and cute little cooktop. Even though the cooktop only has two burners, I rarely have more than 2 pots or pans cooking at once; and now with my Instant Pot I find myself using it even less. Having less of a cooktop means there would be less cleaning of the surface for me!

I also love how much space the tiny house has, despite its compact size. The table from Ikea under the window is so versatile and the fact that it can be folded out of the way, really gives the main living area a ton of room and offers up additional storage. I follow Tiny Miss Dolly on Wheels on Instagram and I love all the pictures she posts of her utlizing the space – whether it be propping up a leaf to eat, sew, use as a computer desk, or have the ultimate craft day. The table can also be pulled out and both leaves popped out for the ultimate dinner party.

Let’s talk about the walk-in closet this tiny house has, because it is amazing! It houses a washer/dryer, all the clothes and storage bins you could ask for, and all the hooks to hang your purses and shopping bags on with room to spare! It just goes to show that with some thoughtful planning, you can create a space of your dreams in a small space.

These are the first 4 tiny homes I saw that made me fall in love with them. Like I said, tiny homes are so customizable and I love their year-round off-grid capability. Even more enticing, is their affordability. Tiny homes really can help one focus on intentional living and becoming debt free…and that is so freeing.
