Vision Board Vibes!

This month my posts have been very much about setting goals and how to achieve them. There’s my “3 Tips to Help you Accomplish your New Year’s Resolutions” that really helps you get focused on goals and “My 2019 Goals” where I tell you how I plan to stay true to my passion and purpose and why you should too.

And today will be no different! I mean, it is the first month of a new year, and most of us need all of the help we can get in order to stay focused on our resolutions. So today I’m coming at you on how to create a vision board.

I fully believe that in order to maintain focus you need to check in on your progress from time to time. One thing that helps is being able to visualize your goals on a recurring basis. What better way to do that than to get arts & crafty and make a vision board!?!?! Shall we get started then?

By now, I assume you’ve established what your goals are. Now is the time to take action and stay motivated. I daydream often, check in on my goals and progress frequently, and keep a vision board hanging in my office so I’m constantly reminded of what I want to accomplish this year.

So how do you make one? I mean it seems pretty easy to throw pretty pictures on a board right? But if you want a board that truly makes you happy and keeps you moving forward rather than reminds you of a life you currently don’t have then you need to be intentional with your selections and curate it!

  1. Choose how you will make your vision board. It can be a cork board that you pin pictures on, you can create a Pinterest vision board, you can cut and paste pictures out of magazines, or use an online tool like Canva. I use Canva to create my vision board. You will need to create an account but it’s free!
  2. With your list of goals out and in front of you, envision yourself after your goals are accomplished. What does your life look like? Where do you live? What do you wear? What do you eat? What do you do with your time (work, hobbies, or otherwise)? Really transport yourself into those moments as you want your vision board to embrace those feelings.
  3. Go look for your pictures and inspirational quotes! Again, really focus on how the pictures make you feel. You want photos that really inspire you and get you excited about your goals. You don’t want to choose pictures just because they are pretty. When you see the pictures on your board you should feel happy, motivated, inspired, and excited.
  4. Put your vision board in a place where you will see it regularly! Mine is in my office, but you could put it on your bedside table, the refrigerator, the door leaving the house, etc. You constantly want to be reminded of what you are striving for.

Like I said before, anyone can put some pictures together. But they might only be pretty pictures. The may not inspire or motivate you to continue working towards your goals. You have to believe the goals and pictures you place on your vision board are obtainable! You need to feel worthy of everything you put on your board!

Now let’s talk about why a vision board might not help you.

  1. Your vision board might have too many pictures. You might have all of the goals, but they don’t need to all be on your vision board. Focus on your most immediate goals first…maybe the first year. You can ALWAYS create new vision boards as you hit your goals.
  2. If you aren’t clear about what you really want in life, then your vision board might not be aligned with you. Therefore it might not inspire you, make you happy, or motivate you. They may only be “pretty pictures” on a board. So, get really clear on what you want, what your goals are, and then make sure your photos embrace that.
  3. If you don’t believe you are worthy of what is on your vision board, then those photos aren’t going to inspire you. You won’t be able to envision yourself in those photos. Your mind won’t be motivated to continue the journey. Your mind will sabotage your intentions.
  4. If you aren’t taking action, you are not going to achieve anything on your vision board. Again, they will only be pretty pictures on paper. The point of the vision board is a tool to help you envision your dreams and keep you motivated. You cannot take action and expect your dreams to suddenly appear before you.
