Are you living your best life? Are you taking advantage of all of the opportunities available to you?
This past weekend I was inspired after I watched a documentary on Amazon titled “Living on One Dollar“. It’s a short, one-hour film and if you get the chance to watch it, I highly recommend it. “Living on One Dollar” follows the journey of four friends (two economics majors and two filmmakers) as they set out to live on one dollar per day for two months in Guatemala. The battle hunger and parasites as they try and survive on what little money they have.
Throughout their journey they meet so many inspiring individuals who are trying to provide for their families so their children can attend school instead of work; be able to seek treatment when a family member gets sick; finish school so they can work in another industry besides farming.
Living in a developed country, we often take for granted what is available to us. Sometimes it is so easy to get caught up in our own struggles that we don’t see what’s happening around us and we can’t recognize what others are going through. Our struggles may not be as bad as we believe them to be, but practicing gratitude can help put everything into perspective.
We might be worried about not being able to make our car payment on time, while others in the world worry about clean drinking water, having a roof over their head, and hoping they can get steady-enough work so their child can attend school rather than having to work. While our country will always have its own problems and poverty and homelessness in the United States is a real issue to be addressed, there are so many resources available to us in the developed world that are not available in third world countries we should be grateful for and take advantage of.
We are given one life on this Earth – are you living your best life or are you running on auto-pilot? Who are you and who do you want to be? Are you showing up the way you want to in your life and in others’ lives? Are you taking advantage of the resources and opportunities around you to be the best person you can be? If not, what free or inexpensive resources can you find or take advantage of in order to help you? Not sure what’s available? The internet can connect you to thousands of resources, including people from all over the world, who can guide you on your journey or point you in the right direction.
Live your best life. Live everyday with purpose. Make sure you are showing up in life the way you want to.
